Because the California Department of Developmental Services (“DDS”) administers care through its network of 21 regional care centers, one of the most important things for DDS participants, as well as those seeking to join DDS, is to become familiar with your local regional center. For those seeking or already receiving DDS services in San Francisco County, the Golden Gate Regional Center (“GGRC”) is your go-to hub for all things DDS.
Becoming Familiar with the Golden Gate Regional Center
As the only DDS regional center in San Francisco County, GGRC is responsible for delivering the bulk of all DDS services in San Francisco County. This includes:
- Intake and eligibility assessments
- Help developing Individual Program Plans (“IPP”)
- Pairing DDS recipients with specific care providers and other community resources
- Transportation services
- Assistance with various housing options and residential programs
- Educational assistance
- Job search and employment training programs
- Help locating, securing, and purchasing assistive technology
- Assistance with the purchasing of care
- Family coordination
- Care for infants and toddlers through the DDS Early Start Program
This list is far from exhaustive. But it provides a broad overview of what is available at GGRC. The most important point here is that, whatever your unique needs, if you receive DDS services you can most likely find what you’re looking for at GGRC. Reach out to them right away and schedule an appointment with your care coordinator if you ever need to make changes to your care plan. And if you have yet to begin DDS, contact GGRC to schedule your eligibility assessment.
Finally, keep in mind that GGRC can also help pair you with other non-profit, community-based organizations. Many of these offer additional services and supports beyond what you can get through GGRC.
