DDS Services in Orange County

The California Department of Developmental Services (“DDS”) administers services for developmentally disabled individuals and their families through its network of 21 regional care centers. Each care center is the go-to hub for DDS participants. For those applying for or receiving DDS services in Orange County, the Regional Center of Orange County (“RCOC”) is your regional care center. It’s important to become familiar with the RCOC and to reach out to them to discuss anything related to your DDS benefits.

Resources Available Through the Regional Center of Orange County

Most immediately, the RCOC is where individuals seeking to apply for DDS should begin the application process. The RCOC will conduct your initial intake and eligibility interview. They will make an eligibility determination based on that interview. Once you are deemed eligible for DDS services, you can work with the RCOC to develop your Individual Program Plan (“IPP”) and to begin receiving services.

Currently, RCOC provides the following:

  • Lists of care providers located throughout Orange County to help you research and select the providers that are right for you.
  • Assessments, including prenatal diagnostic evaluations.
  • Early intervention services for infants and toddlers 0-3, administered through the Early Start Program.
  • A variety of therapy services.
  • Respite care for family members and caregivers.
  • Child care services for children who have aged out of the Early Start Program.
  • Adult day care services.
  • Employment services for adults who want to work.
  • Transportation services.
  • Residential services to help those who would like to live more independently.
  • Psychological, counseling, and behavioral services.
  • Assistance determining which types of medical or assistive equipment you may need, as well as help purchasing the equipment.
  • Social and recreational services aimed at facilitating community engagement and social interaction.
  • Coordinated Family Support services.
